HakMun Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the HakMun application ("App") operated by V Gibbs & Company LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Description of Service

HakMun is a Korean language practice platform for macOS and iOS. The App allows you to:

  • Import selected content from your Google Docs for Korean language practice
  • Extract sentences, vocabulary, and grammar patterns using AI-powered analysis
  • Generate AI-powered practice sentences, writing exercises, and vocabulary drills
  • Build Korean listening practice around your Apple Music library
  • Track your learning progress across practice sessions

HakMun is a practice tool and teacher's assistant — not a certified language learning platform or a substitute for qualified language instruction.

2. Account and Identity

You authenticate via Sign in with Apple. You create your own username within the App. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. One account per person.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age.

4. Google Account Integration

The App integrates with Google via OAuth 2.0 for read-only access to documents you choose to import. Your use of Google services is subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. You may revoke HakMun's access at any time through your Google Account settings.

5. Apple Music Integration

The songs module uses Apple's MusicKit to read your playlists and song metadata for listening practice. This access is separate from Sign in with Apple, requires its own permission, and can be revoked in your device's Settings. HakMun does not modify your library. No music data is sent to third-party AI services.

6. AI Processing and Generated Content

Consent to AI Processing. By using HakMun's import and practice features, you consent to having your selected text processed by OpenAI's AI services. See our Privacy Policy for details on what data is and is not sent.

AI-Generated Content. Practice sentences, vocabulary exercises, grammar analysis, and other generated content are produced by AI. This content may contain errors in Korean grammar, vocabulary, translation, or usage. AI-generated content should not be relied upon as authoritative — always verify with a qualified teacher.

No Guarantee of Accuracy. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or pedagogical correctness of AI-generated content.

7. Your Content

Ownership. You retain ownership of all content you import into HakMun, including your lesson notes and any text you highlight for processing.

License to Us. By importing content, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that content solely to provide the App's services to you.

Your Responsibility. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights to import and use any content you add to HakMun.

8. Confidentiality Warning

Do not import sensitive or confidential material. Content you highlight is transmitted to our server and processed by third-party AI services. You should not import content containing:

  • Sensitive personal information (financial data, health records, government IDs)
  • Trade secrets or proprietary business information
  • Confidential material subject to non-disclosure agreements
  • Any content you would not want processed by a third-party service

We are not responsible for any consequences arising from your decision to import confidential or sensitive content.

9. Third-Party Services

HakMun relies on the following third-party services. Each service's own terms and privacy policies govern their handling of data:

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose
  • Import content that infringes the intellectual property rights of others
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer AI processing or extract model behavior
  • Scrape, bulk-extract, or systematically download content from the App
  • Attempt to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt the App
  • Use the App to generate content for purposes other than personal language learning

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. AI-generated content is not guaranteed to be accurate, natural-sounding, or pedagogically appropriate.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases and we may delete your stored content.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes are version-numbered and require re-acceptance within the App before you can continue using the service.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Westchester County, New York.
